And the Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich
4.0

This book was full of some creepy goodness and some twists and surprises I didn't really suspect until I was in much too deep. The foreshadowing was good, the descriptions hit just the right notes to leave me wanting to look over my shoulder or suppress a shudder from time to time, the character development was interesting, and the slow reveal of the backstory (strongly hinted at but only gradually revealed in full throughout the course of the story) was excellent. The big twist at the finale surprised me and was pretty inventive, not at all what I was expecting (or, more appropriately, it took what I had expected and turned it into something I hadn't really seen coming). If you like creepy horror/fantasy for young adults with an interesting twist, this book might be for you.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
