I said I needed to take a break from historical romance after this (mostly because by nature they involve a lot of unrealistic virgin-sex experiences). But I might have to keep going with this particular series bc it’s focused on a group of suffragists. The author actually patterned the MCs after real women and men in the suffragist movement. This might just be my particular interests, but the concerns and conflicts highlighted overlap SO MUCH with modern complementarian push back, it’s sort of shocking. Not that I thought using tradition to maintain a cover for abuse is a new thing but I didn’t realize “family values” had been around so long.
