It was tough for me to connect with the characters at first-- one review called the book a slow burn, and I definitely agree. Over time I became more involved and read faster and faster. I think Rosalita had a lot to do with that. When she started work and lamented over how for the next 8 hours she would have to turn off her brain and be bored, I realized just how many people are underemployed and how sad that is. Her relationship with Archie was wonderful, but of course Archie was the one of the trio I related to most. Grace seemed almost a non-person. Post-partum depression was so obvious but she just read flat, like cardboard. I loved the end, at the same time feeling it was a bit of a fairy tale.

Some of the asides, and definitely the author's note were really great reading, considering what is going on in the world today. Timely and important.

Having read Big Little Lies recently, the discovery and police interviews scattered throughout seemed kind of copycat. That could have been handled better.
