10 years ago, Shiki and Yamato were best friends, until Shiki was chosen by the Shamaness as a sacrifice and set aflame. Ever since, Yamato - the village chief's son - has been searching for Shiki, convinced he's still alive.
After 10 years of searching, Yamato finds Shiki, but nothing is like it used to be. A year later, Yamato begins work as the Shamaness' bodyguard and general. He's bright, brave and has a positive attitude, while Shiki - now Himiko - is jaded, serious and guarded.
It's a beautiful story with some stunning! artwork. It's one that I'd happily read again: a little bittersweet, a touch hopeful and full of longing.
