Duino Elegies by Rainer Maria Rilke

4.0

I won’t pretend I fully understood this. Rilke’s poems were slightly giving me whiplash wondering what exactly he was talking about & why he was mentioning beasts & chieftans & other things while talking about something else entirely before…& yet I still give 4 stars cause it’s beautiful & I love the vibes of thinking of death & life & the strangeness of it all. 8 & 9 were my faves for sure. I just love Rilke’s thoughtfulness & the consistency in all of his work—he’s so true to himself. Though this was semi-confusing & not my favorite piece of his, I certainly always appreciate him & the way that he sees the world. Maybe I’ll do some more research on these to understand them more, too.
