The Children Who Lived in a Barn
by Eleanor Graham
So happy Persephone Books introduced me to this children’s classic, and with a wonderful introduction by Jacqueline Wilson too. The narrative is extraordinary and yet never feels totally implausible as if we’re entrances into a child’s logic. Despite this, through a modern adult’s eyes, the events of the children being left alone and the parentification of the two elder siblings is horrific. The children feel real and truly come to life through the pages. Would recommend to children and adults of all ages.
