This has been on my "to read" list for a very long time, and I am very glad that I took the time to conquer this well known work. I went into this knowing only that this is a work of classic American literature. I had no idea of the characters, plot, or setting. I was not disappointed in the slightest. This book is vivid with details of a young black girl and her family who live in the south. I think that this book is very much akin to "To Kill a Mockingbird" - from a different racial perspective. I really enjoyed this and would not hesitate to read it again.
