The Diabolic

This was a pretty great first book in a new series which I will continue with just as soon as I have space on my shelves for the other books in the series.
The main character is Nemesis, a Diabolic, a deadly weapon that's only job is to protect a child who's parents purchase it. Nemesis may be one of the few Diabolic's left after the government calls for a cull on them due to the danger they pose. But Nemesis is hidden and kept, and when the Emperor calls for Sidonia , the girl who Nemesis is supposed to protect to go to the Imperial Court. And Nenesis goes in her place.
There are a lot of secondary characters and I think they will be explored more in the other books in the series.
The storyline is great and as a first book in a new series I would say that it brilliantly introduced a new setting and characters that I can't wait to read more of. The pacing is very good and I very much enjoyed the cliffhanger ending that has made me very excited to read the next book in the series.
