Wouldn't recommend this for anybody who have already watched the movie.

This was definitely not a book for me - all telling and no showing. The boy is afloat in a lifeboat under terrifying conditions and with he's life hanging in a thread, and I never felt anything - Not sadness, tension, joy, or relief.

The beginning of the book was incredible tedious, full of philosophical debates on religion and zoo keeping, which held no importance for the rest of the story. When at last his gets on the lifeboat ca. 30% in the narrative is full of details about how he is hungry, caches fish, keeps the boat clean, is hungry, gather water, and is hungry.

I don't even think the twist holds up to scrutiny, but maybe that wouldn't be a problem if I haven't seen the movie (not really the same twist, btw).

The book was way to long and detailed, but might have been a quite enjoyable novella.
