This is a worthy sequel to the first book. I love this universe's magic system and I love how this book expanded on it.
I'm not the biggest fan of memory loss as plot device and yet I love how it was used here.
I love that the author write's death and with the weight death has and
when a character has to kill, it affects them accordingly.
I love how the author didn't overlook the effects of war, although this book is technically YA,
the main group doesn't end unscathed, the problem doesn't disappear as soon as the leader is defeated, paramilitary groups are shown to be as dangerous as they can be and the scene discussing how killing people from another army without trial after the war is over is a war crime was essential.
. I love this book so much. A few, very few, moments missed a bit of the magic of the first book but I still feel like this was really good. I can't picture a better ending for this series. I'm glad to say this has been fantastic from beginning to end.
