Lorenzo Beretta by Abigail Davies

This was hard. It was close to being a 4 star read for me, but a few things were HUGE issues for me. This is an arranged mafia marriage between Lorenzo and Aida and all the angst that comes along with it. I actually very much enjoyed this story and that we got to see them grow together. But the setup in the beginning was quite confusing. Most arranged mafia marriages - at least in romance books - the marriage is required by the head of the family to show stability and that you are a family man. But Lorenzo knowingly flaunts for EVERYONE to see that this isn’t that. He doesn’t at all treat her as a wife in the beginning. This was confusing as well because there were no scenes where Aida or her family had a discussion that this was going to be an “in name only” marriage - and none between Lorenzo and her- yet it’s clear that’s what he intends. I didn’t at all understand that she wouldn’t have asked him about that at any point along the way either. It just didn’t work for me in the setup and was a huge miss for me in this story. But otherwise I really enjoyed it and didn’t want to put it down until I finished it!
