Leeva at Last by Sara Pennypacker
4.0

This reminded me of Roald Dahl style books. Leeva has parents who do not care for her at all - one parent only cares about money and the other about fame. They only wanted a child because they thought one could bring them money and fame.

Leeva is a shadow child - her parents do not let her leave the house or yard. She teaches herself to read and she has a knack for numbers. One day, she ventures out into the world beyond her home and finds a magical place - the library. Through library adventures and thanks to the librarian's quest to bake every kind of cookie, Leeva finds herself learning about the community around her.

For those who enjoy sweet, silly, and sometimes sad, this story will be just the ticket.
