Wow! Wow! Wow! This brutal, evocative novella is like a stream of fireworks to the face. It isn't normally the kind of fare I read, but in an increasingly despairing world...well, let's just say its hard-earned optimism and tenacity are more than welcome.
Because I don't typically read books like this the beginning was hard for me to scale, but ten pages later I was hooked. The author expertly balances the historical and the fantastical, creating expert tension for xir essentially immortal protagonist and granting the reader some excellent comic-book-caliber fight scenes along the way. Bravo!!!
