2021 re-read: It's been such a pleasure to re-read this beloved childhood series, and that I've actually enjoyed them! I'm a little emotional that it's over. In this one it wasn't the main adventure plot I was most interested in, but seeing all the characters grow up. It's been fun, and I can't wait to revisit this series when I have children I can read these to!
2013 read: Goodreads rating nr 100, woo!
And this is the perfect book to earn that number!
I have loved the Septimus Heap series ever since I fell in love with the cover of the first book many years ago. And ever since, every time I've visited the Philippines, I raided the bookstores to see if there was a new book out. I was surprised that this year, there actually was; the very last one. And even though I wouldn't really like it to be, I think it's time. I'm an adult now, so it'll be good to finish it now, so I can read and enjoy it all over again in a few years!
It was wonderful to read this, and get back into the beloved and known world of Septimus Heap again, with the familiar map in the beginning of the book. I must say that the story started a little slow, at least in my opinion, so I got time to get to know the characters again and remember. I was also very happy about Simon and Lucy's wedding! :D
Though I feel that later in the book, the action was very tightly packed and hard to keep up with, but I guess it had to be that way to fit it all into 700 pages - And the font is big, I keep forgetting that this is a children's book xD
I love reading about Jenna growing up and preparing to be queen - Finally meeting and getting close to her ''real'' family and stuff. And it's awesome that she's so modern!
And also, I'm very happy for Marwick, who finally gets his own name, family, story and life! I feel like he hasn't really gotten the love he deserves in the past books, especially since he's been so brave and helpful to the others.
The ending was a great roundup, with the and the little ''what happened to them?'' of all the characters. I can now finally let go of this world, even though I probably never will entirely.
