Friends and Neighbours: A heart-warming journey of self-discovery by Ruth Torjussen

This book contains details of ab*se and judgemental behaviour.

This book was beautiful. It was full of humour and it can only be described as a light, thought provoking read.

The main character, Jenny, is trying to figure out just who she is after losing her best friend Sue to cancer. She's become a totally different person, a person of whom she doesn't wish to be. But it can't really be helped.... Or can it? ;)

I really felt a mix of emotions for Jenny. Mostly pity, but at times, I felt some anger towards her. She judged almost everyone without caring to know the full story. I understand that she lost her best mate, hence the pity for the character she was spiralling out to be. But, I saw deeper into her and knew that in her heart, she was a good person in a bad place.
We all go into the bad place at some point in our lives and it takes a lot of courage to get ourselves out.

Dawn, the next door neighbour, I frickin loved her! Her continuous humour, her ability to bring light to the scene even though she was battling her own problems. She's such a strong character and I admire her greatly.
Jenny's husband, Lenny - amazing man! Looks after and cares for the environment, Lenny is a man who looks deeper and seems to want to make things better. The whole way through this story he was so supportive to Jenny and that was honestly amazing to see.

Ruth Torjussen has written a wonderful book about finding yourself and finding friends in unexpected places. This book sends so many different messages, but the most important one of all: You are never alone <3
