While I was not expecting a heist type of story, the pacing of it was confusing. Events were hard to follow. Characters jumped from location to location, making everything confusing. For example, Anwei was supposed to help Noa break up a governor’s ball, but then it turned into a heist for a shapeshifter’s book (and then I became confused about whether the governor’s house was really the shapeshifter’s). Wordbuilding was also minimal. Characters jump from the apothecary, Lia’s home, and the tomb with no sense of time or journey. I believe Anwei took a carriage to the tomb, but now I’m not entirely too sure.

I know there is a sequel but I might skip it for now.
