Been There, Done That: A Rousing History of Sex by Rachel Feltman

funny informative lighthearted fast-paced

3.0

I think this book accomplishes the goal it sets out for itself, which is de-stigmatizing sex. I can't really say there was anything wrong with it. But it somehow didn't quite meet my expectations. The chapter structure was almost always the same (animals -> history -> modern humans), which I found a bit boring. In general, I was hoping there would be more emphasis on modern times, even though I understand the grounding we were doing in history and nature.
I also found some examples simplistic, and there were a couple of jokes that I think fell flat under closer scrutiny. By staying very surface level, this book is able to cover an insane amount of examples. Which is definitely one approach to the topic. But I often wished we could have stayed with some examples longer.
All in all, really nothing wrong with this book but it somehow fell flat for me.
