Deep House by Jeremy Atherton Lin

Another mixed memoir and queer history book. I find his writing so compelling, and his personal experience adds such a depth and pathos to the facts and dates sections. At first I was a little confused at the relevance of the marriage equality history - it feels like an argument that was settled a decade ago, so why write about it now? But as the book goes on, it reveals itself to be so much about borders and immigration, and the way the legal system is wrapped up in relationships, and it feels extremely timely in a year where ICE and immigration is one of the major political issues of the moment. Really fantastic book.
