Why Poetry
by Matthew Zapruder
Why Poetry doesn't demystify poetry, but it does discuss how poems' aphorisms, metaphors, negative capabilities, and more celebrate the ordinary, create a dream for the reader to enter and share. A poem should not mean, but be. But if it means, in a way that speaks to or for the reader, that's good too. I found many of Zapruder's claims and arguments about poetry could be said about letter-writing as well.
