Juniper Unraveling
by Julie Belfield, Keri Lake
Juniper Unraveling was one of the most unique book I've read in a long time. I went in completely blind, having read a few reviews who were really vague about the plot and characters but I was intrigued, especially since Keri is one of my favorite author.
Juniper Unraveling is set in a dystopian world where people have to survive among Ragers (zombie like creatures) and as the story begins we meet Dani and Wren, two girls, two different POVs. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit confused at the beginning, not understanding the double POV thing and how these girls were supposed to be connected but I let myself get swept away into the story and it was so worth it.
I do not want to give anything away, this book is too complex for me to get into details about the story so I won't (hence the vague reviews I read in the beginning) but give it a chance, I promise you won't be disappointed. Keri wrote something different from what she's used to write, she took a chance on a completely new genre for her and it worked. She's brilliant.
Do not go into this book thinking this is YA or a light NA because it is not. If you don't know Keri dearest, she likes to toy with her readers and this book is definitely for a mature audience. I cannot say it enough, this book is not YA and certainly not for the faint of heart.
The first part of the book had me hooked, it was a little slow but necessary for the story. The second part, now, is where things got even better. I was legit shaking from anticipation and excitation. I thought I had the twist of the story figure out at some point but when it turned out I was wrong, I was shook! Honestly was not expecting that at all, it put the entire book in perspective and made it a thousand times better.
Juniper Unraveling is a unique, complex, amazing story that needs to be savored. I loved it, I fell in love with the characters and the world Keri created. The romance was perfect, just the right amount of angst. I am beyond excited to read the second book in this series because I cannot believe Keri won't write another one.
