I thought this book was a sci-fi book, but it truly YA contemporary. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if I knew that. That being said, I found the premise of the book interesting and the ending was a gut punch, but the middle dragged for me. I also hated listening to the narrator’s Rufus chapters - the slabs Just sounded so out of place when he read those chapters.
Graphic: Child death, Death of parent, Fire/Fire injury, Homophobia, Suicidal thoughts, and Violence
