Lights Out by Navessa Allen

5.0

After months of nail-biting anticipation, I happily received this ARC and let out a horror movie worthy squeal.

My expectations were extremely high, and when I tell you this book did not disappoint, that’s a vast understatement.

What I received was full of heat, and a surprising amount of heart. These characters had extreme depth and vulnerability coupled with their off the charts chemistry, and I loved every second of this exciting and fast-paced read!!
What I also couldn’t have anticipated, is how often I would laugh while reading. Equal parts sarcasm, witty banter, sardonic teasing, and the perfect mixture of dark and off colored humor made for a good time.
@navessa.allen managed to create an original world and storyline based on the social media phenomenon of masked men and primal play, adding her own twists and turns along the way.

The backstories that she created for her characters were not only believable, but they were intriguing and authentic in their psychology, and that fed the part of my brain which is fascinated by true crime podcasts, and the breakdown of societal norms. I didn’t expect to delve into sociology as well as a book for escapism, but that’s most likely what endeared this book to me most.

I thoroughly enjoyed having a female main character whom I could respect and admire, and a male main character with the perfect mixture of emotional maturity and vulnerability.
