The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner

3.0

Sarah Penner's "The Lost Apothecary" is a fascinating narrative that transports readers between the past and present. While I was captivated by the historical storyline, I did not feel as invested in Caroline's contemporary tale because it lacked the same level of excitement as Nella and Eliza's plot. Caroline's issues, while well-written, did not affect me in the same way as Nella's story did.

The historical perspective created a chilling and engaging atmosphere that drew me in. I often found myself rushing through Caroline's parts to return to Nella and Eliza's plot.

Eliza is an exceptional character whose bravery and determination, considering the time she lived in, captivated me. She is worthy of being one of my favorite fictional characters ever written. I admired her fierce loyalty and strength, especially considering the lack of power women had in her era.

The book reads like a mild thriller, similar to a mystery with lots of betrayal against women.

Overall, I give this book 3.5 stars. It is well-written and flows smoothly, with Eliza being the pillar of this story to me.
