The Night Raven
by Sarah Painter
The magic system was promising but just not fleshed out enough. The main character being an aimless twenty-something who doesn't know what she wants in life and lets people manipulate her has been done to death. And was tiresome the first time around.
But my main objection was the lack of curiousity she had to what was going on around her. She's supposed to be a PI. Surely they are nosy by nature? The ghost, the odd glow she sees around the policeman, exactly what Charlie Crow is up to - doesn't care. I wanted to reach into the book and shake her.
