"But that is the nature of grammar--it is always tense, like an instrument, aching for release, longing to transform present into future, is into was into will."
The writing in this story is beautiful; not to mention clever. It reads like a classic fairytale with everything you could hope for with a story that follows that theming.
It's a quick read if you are looking for something short. Despite the length, it's punchy and doesn't lack depth. The magic system is interesting and lends itself well to the lyrical writing.
The writing was stand out, but the bond between the sisters was my favorite part of the book. Esther and Bel have my whole heart and I only wish we could have seen more of their lives played out. I'm happy with what we received and couldn't recommend this lovely novel enough.
5/5 stars
