Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne
5.0

His name is Edward Bear. Winnie the Pooh is not his real name. This was shattering. And how do Kanga and Roo show up well before Tigger? He’s not even in volume 1 so I guess I might have to find volume 2.

Once I got over those shocks, this was delightful and whimsy in a way that I didn’t get from the Hobbit or Alice in Wonderland. Just so full of circular reasoning and comical conclusions that everyone just goes with and the plot moves on. Only message is friendship, cooperation, and doing your best to problem solve.

I enjoyed every bit of this. I loved 4th wall breakers like, “…and his story went on and on, much like this sentence in fact.” They don’t write children’s stories like this anymore. I cannot think of a better story to read to a child on a bright and breezy summer day. And so I did.
