The Light Fantastic
by Terry Pratchett
The Light Fantastic continues on from the events in the Colour of Magic. Again this follows the story of Rincewind the magician, Twoflower the tourist, and the magical luggage. The Light Fantastic completes this story and we get answers regarding the spell in Rincewind’s head and Twoflower ends his journey. This story is brilliantly told and is exciting and so funny. As with the Colour of Magic, Rincewind and Twoflower blunder into one hostage, life threatening situation after another.
I love Rincewind so much, he is such an unlikely and unwilling hero but is actually so brave because he keeps going despite being poorly equipped. I love the description of him fighting and winning through sheer damn luck and the protection of the spell. I actually prefer a flawed protagonist rather than the super confident “hero” types. All he wants is to go home and live a mundane existence. As well as Rincewind, I absolutely adore the naivety of Twoflower and the adorableness/protectiveness of the luggage. We get introduced to fantastic characters such as Cohen the barbarian, Bethan, and Death - who is the best.
I’m so pleased I set myself the goal of reading the entire Discworld series; loving it so far and I know it only gets better.
