MAGICK: an extreme horror novella by Judith Sonnet

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

3.0

So I've been taking a dive into Extreme horror and this one wasn't bad at all.
In the beginning, there were a few times I had to go backward and forward as a random character turned up and who the husband was changed lol but after that it was smooth sailing.

For a short story it is very well written, the plot was smooth and fast and had a good pace. Some of the descriptions were extremely detailed so the imagery was amazing and very well done as well, and the house reminded me a little of Silent Hill.

Why is it three stars?
I wish it told us more of the lore of the house, as a splatterpunk it's not the goriest I've read. The world-building is pretty nonexistent and why is Judith obsessed with the fetus? so obsessed with them.

But the main thing is, I did enjoy reading it.
Would I re-read it? maybe.
