The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.
by Nicole Galland, Neal Stephenson
I've read everything Neal Stephenson has written. He presents technical information in his books in interesting ways, but he also has well-conceived characters and interesting plots. I wasn't sure what to expect in this collaboration with Nicole Galland, because collaborations can end up lacking the magic of the author you love. Not in this case! The writing felt reminiscent of Connie Willis in some ways - the female characters had life and energy, and there's the same kind of development of the community/worldview that you just relax and enjoy, and that tease you a bit since you're interested in hearing what comes next but you're also soaking in what's happening now. I tend to chew and digest this kind of book, so it certainly wasn't a quick read for me, but I enjoyed every minute. Now that I've read this, I want to read Nicole's other books. Thanks, Neal and Nicole!
