I really liked this book. Certain parts were a little strange. But it was good.

I'm not sure about the legality of driving a school bus without a special license (even for personal use). It seems like some states might require it for a bus as big as Yager. And you cannot tell me that Lester is licensed to drive a bus.

This book begs to be compared to a childhood favorite of mine, Road Trip by Gary Paulsen. (In that book, the character needs a special license to drive a bus. But I looked it up and I'm still not sure??) Very similar plot structure, wildly different plot. But it's interesting to compare the two. If Gemeinhart didn't read it before writing this, I'd be shocked. Father and Child go off on a trip, child has an ulterior motive, racing to be a clock, animal sidekick, along the trip are joined by: a stricter guy who thinks everyone is kind of crazy; a troubled friend of the kid; and an older woman who the kids really like.
One of them is running from the law?? trouble with the police?? they think they've missed their shot?? I mean come one Gemeinhart.

Lastly I have weird feelings about Rodeo. I mean, running away from your grief. Forcing a child to deal with you and your inability to be a parent for 5 years. FIVE YEARS!
