It was funnier than I thought it would be, I imagined it much more dry or serious. I was pretty sure I would like the book, but it honestly was better than I expected. Katniss is a very well written protagonist in my opinion, with clear motivations and an understandable thought process. Peeta is an amazingly unique character, somehow subverting expections without feeling out of place. The world is also obviously well thought out, but there isn't a lot of time wasted explaining unnecessary details which is also a plus in my book.
All in all it's a really solid start to an iconic series.
