Truly, Devious by Maureen Johnson

5.0

WHAT A BLAST! Such a fun, engrossing read. Excellent scene-setting, excellent mystery-weaving, excellent use of multiple time periods. Stevie was a PERFECT protagonist, David an IMPECCABLE Darcy-esque figure, Nick and Janelle such supportive and three-dimensional best friend figures. Plus there's the subtext happening between Iris and Flora which I live for, and the ABSOLUTELY ICONIC AND COMPLETELY ASPIRATIONAL Leonard Holmes Nair (of course I loved the grumpy trash boy, who's surprised). AHHHH just what a good cast and story. Can't wait for the second and third installments of the trilogy!

Oh, also, finally, bigtime shoutout to the normalizing of queer identities and relationships throughout the book despite a heterosexual pairing being the main couple. Would love to see more het YAs do the same.
