I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman

5.0

This was spectacular. The way Alice Osemans books have the ability to emotionally destroy me by the end is truly something special. By the end, I was so invested and upset with how the characters had to deal with trauma and sadness, from Jimmy feeling undeserving of life, to Rowan yelling at people for no reason, to Angel finally confronting Juliet, every single character in this book felt so real and so flawed in such a human way. The emotions in this book were so powerful and utterly heartbreaking while at the same time being hopeful. Another great thing about this book is it’s commentary on fandom, and fan culture. How people become so obsessed with something that it can become a thing to base your life on and escape from your own life. Angels journey of realizing that her idols are really just normal people that have ugly, and true flaws was really interesting and it helped develop her as a character as well as the band members, particularly Jimmy. Also loved the lgbtq+ rep, it made me very happy. In summary, Alice Osemans books really are impactful and fantastic every time.
