Phryne is employed by a distraught mother to prove that her son did not commit suicide. She is also employed to find if there is a missing heir to an estate. In both cases she finds a cast of manipulators playing games as they circulating the cases and she has to work out who is telling the truth and uncover hidden family secrets.
This was an enjoyable read bring together a mix of characters all struggling to get through 1929 life as best they can.
