Água Viva by Clarice Lispector

4.5

I read most of this short book on a sunny day in a bus in Provence. this felt like the perfect setting: a calm relaxing environment, my senses lulled by the steady motor and drifting landcapes.

água viva is my first Clarice Lispector, but probably not my last. this book is unlike anything i have ever read. the stream-of-consciousness style is masterfully executed and I felt like i embarked on a trip through her mind, deeply grounded in time and space yet so apart from them.

this book felt like it was written in waves - at times I was lulled by the poetic, elegant prose, and then I would be thrown around by chaotic sentences and unbridled emotions a few pages later. although it was a very quick read, it felt very satisfying to finish it, like I had just witnessed a lifetime in 90 pages.
