A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift
3.0

What a fascinating essay, it’s really ingenious in my opinion. Swift catches your attention by using a satirical form of political satire to draw you in, while all the time criticizing all sorts of different things: The Irish government, the Royalty of Ireland, the general pubic, and poverty levels. He does it all under the appalling guise of a man who’s solution to the ever growing number of poverty ridden people in the nation is to fatten up the poor’s kids and then made them into a new delicacy for the upper class to dine on. He uses proposed stats and theory to explain why his viewpoint should be taken seriously. I had to re-read this essay and look up summaries and analysis’s to understand it. It all connects. Written all the way back in 1729, and it wasn’t the least bit boring.
