Interesting For Historical Context, But Not For Modern Readers
I had a blast reading this, as it’s interesting to read unknown novels from the 1800s like this, but the overall story is super upsetting for anyone born past probably the 1940s.
The story is about a 14 year old girl named Maddy, who is groomed by a rich 25 year old man named Guy to turn her into a proper wife for his friend, Dr. Holbrook, a 26 year old man. Very upsetting.
Still, it was entertaining at times, and I find it interesting to consider what the readers of the time would have thought of it.
