The House with a Clock in Its Walls
by John Bellairs
I wish my love of lists had started as a child. I would love to flip through pages marking books I read and the date I first read them. I loved the books of Bellairs. The world of ghosts and mysteries. A bit of the macabre tied up in a neat package. As an adult, it can be scary to return to a childhood favorite. For the last five years I have wanted to pick this book up. And I am happy I finally did. I imagine these books were a huge influence on what turned into an obsessive love of literature and language. The only thing that saddens me about not having a child is not being able to hand my favorite books down.
