Dear Future Me
by Deborah O'Connor
Twenty years after writing letters to their future selves, Audrey and her friends all receive their blast from the past. Her best friend, Miranda, reads her letter, immediately leaves home, and jumps off a cliff. Audrey and Miranda’s family are stunned and devastated by this news, having no idea why she would do this. Audrey begins to discover the relations to the letter and takes it upon herself to figure out what went down.
I was really into this concept and found it to be intriguing from the beginning. It was a bit of a slow burn, with a lot of background context that needed to be added in. At times, I wanted things to move along quicker. By the time it got to the resolution, I wasn’t sure how I felt. I will say I appreciated how the author made me change my theory every few chapters, and I did not know for sure what would happen until it was happening. The end was exciting, with a bit of action as well. I would’ve just preferred the build up to progress a bit quicker.
