Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

3.0

This just didn't meet my expectations - maybe they were too high - but so many people loved this book, and I thought I would too. It didn't help that I felt the author was just too negative to like most of the time. I love Korean food, and I love novels built around a story of food, but I just didn't like this one. As far as memoirs about dying mothers go, I liked "Dancing at the Pity Party" by Tyler Feder a lot more. Maybe because it was a little lighter in tone, and maybe because you knew immediately she loved her mother, unlike trying to convince myself that was true with "Crying in H Mart". It was not a terrible read, just not what I was looking for - although I really want to go to an H Mart now.
