Ravensong by TJ Klune
5.0

i gave wolfsong 5 stars near the end of last year, calling it one of my favourite books of the year. tell me, reader, how did it manage to get /better/?? what now?? six stars?? do i make a separate shelf for favourite-favourites? will heartsong somehow double it again and throw me directly into the sun with how good it is too?? augh. gay werewolves. what the hell man.

an absolutely perfect sequel that expands on one of my favourite characters in the series and does it oh-so well; somehow an even better romance (although i think i'm biased because of the dynamic difference between gordo & mark vs ox & joe); an absolute mad-woman of a villain who's just such a sadistic joy to read about with just how fucked up her morals are; the narration is top-tier, and the dialogue is so well-written as expected. ravensong knocks it out of the park in literally every regard. i adore this book and i hope heartsong picks up where it left off for a home-run (i want to see robert livingstone fifty feet underground and/or beaten to a bloody pulp please and thank you!)

there's not a single chapter where i was waiting to move on, the pacing is just right to somehow fit so many events into one book without it feeling too fast or lingering on some bits too much. i loved reading about gordo and mark as kids, how he ended up working at the garage, and the found family dynamic is - as always - wonderful (ox calls thomas his dad guys i'm not okay).

10s across the board. read ravensong. read wolfsong. read all the books. packpackpack
