Overall the quality of writing remains very high in this fourth installment of the Song of Ice and Fire series. However the pacing made it hard to immerse myself in the story and the new POV characters. It felt like as soon as I’d get into a certain plot line, I’d be taken across the ocean into one seemingly unrelated (for now) and I wouldn’t hear about the characters before for another 150+ pages. The end picks back up again (with the final Arianne chapter) but I still found this book less engaging than its predecessors. Maybe I’ll enjoy it more on the reread!
