Shadow of the Fox
by Julie Kagawa
I found this to be a little boring. The main character, Yumeko, was cute and funny in the beginning when she was a mostly carefree mischievous fox. But then things got complicated without really getting interesting and dangerous without really like there's any tension. The characters never make an decisions, and nothing happens because of their actions--things happen to them, and they respond. I'm sure there are lots of readers out there who are familiar with Japanese folklore who will appreciate it, as well as those who are tired of the same fantasy influences who will like the unique details of the world.
