This was almost a perfect read for me, it was a slow start but then totally gripped me it was so good!! I love books that mix in historical elements regarding race but dont make it the main focus or too depressing. I thought this was an unexpectedly juicy read. The only reason it didn’t get a higher rating was because I was kind of disappointed with the end and not finding out more clear details of what became of the main character. I could have used 30 more pages to flesh that out more than the vague illusions made at the end.
