I had avoided adding [b:John Dies at the End|6364718|John Dies at the End|David Wong|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1317064454s/6364718.jpg|1858059] until a friend roped me into it through a challenge. I have to say, it was a pleasant surprise. Well, maybe not pleasant. That's not a word that describes, well, anything in this book.
I should start over. Did you see Planet Terror? You know, the first part of Grindhouse. The gross one where Quentin Tarantino sort of melts apart into goo in a spectacularly awful way? Not Death Proof, the second film which Tarantino directed and which is awesome in so many more ways than seeing him melt into a puddle of good. But, I've digressed again. So, Planet Terror, but less openly gooey, perhaps because it's largely during a blizzard in the middle of nowhere Illinois. The effects of the drug of choice, in this case named soy sauce, are not quite so instant and there seems to be far less of a deliberate attempt to kill everyone then profit. Well, at first. Confused yet?
If you like weird, quirky things, check this out. Think Shaun of the Dead, but with more outwardly exploding organs and a magic dog, with a villain that somewhat resembles the villain in Hot Fuzz. (Or at times the villain in that episode of Doctor Who where Rose is dangling from a balloon in the middle of the Blitz and we meet Captain Jack for the first time.) So, yeah, nerd candy. Totally.
