mwhelan 's review for:
Hold Still
by Nina LaCour
I loved We Are Okay and read it in a day. I read Hold Still in one sitting. It felt incredibly realistic, which made it hard to read at points.
I had just finished Dear Edward before starting Hold Still, so I think I need a dose of happy after that one-two punch.
One thing I liked about this book was the romantic subplot. It was there, but it didn't take center stage, and that felt appropriate. Of course a grieving 17 year old will still have a romantic interest, but I'm glad the entire book wasn't just about Caitlin, Ingrid, and Taylor. I liked that the more developed relationship came between Caitlin and Dylan.
Also, minor, but I loved that her project wasn't something stereotypically feminine.
Long story short, Nina LaCour knows how to write compelling novels that make me care about her characters and she's 2 for 2 in making me cry!
