The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

2.0

I don't like historical fiction. I don't like classics that they make students read in middle school. (Thanks, book club, for obligating me to read this.)
I'm sorry, this is just the way I've always been. Maybe I'll outgrow it (I probably won't). I read books almost exclusively for entertainment and escapism, so those like The Outsiders about historical events and life lessons are just unbearable for me.
The Outsiders has too many plot points crammed into 180 pages, yet it still managed to make me bored. I was not motivated to read a thing. Also, the characters are unrealistic. Boys (who are to this day socialized to not show emotions) are always crying, cuddling, and expressing their feelings to one another.
I know The Outsiders is beloved, but it's not my personal cup of tea - I'm glad I got it over with, especially before Christmas day, so I don't have to read about people stabbing each other on my favorite holiday.
