Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover

5.0

What a powerful memoir. The author certainly has lived a unique life that justifies the writing of a memoir. From the beginning pages, I was hooked at how outlandish her childhood was. At times it feels like fiction but then gut wrenching to remember it’s real. I thought it was really well-written, like I appreciated how she’d start paragraphs with powerful short sentences or jump around a bit in the sequence of the narrative.
It’s amazing the life she was able to live after the life she grew up in. I liked reading about the professors who encouraged and inspired her to keep going in her education. There were many points when she could’ve just gone home.

I’d recommend this memoir to people who also enjoyed Jeanette Walls’ memoir “Glass Castle.” I saw someone else say this book is similar to Trevor Noah’s memoir “Born a Crime” and I’d agree with that.
