The Spring Girls
by Anna Todd
I. Cannot.
This was absolutely awful. Anna Todd tried to do a retelling of Little Women and failed to the Nth degree. The only similarities to Louisa May Alcott’s classic were the names of the girls.
I hated them all. Marmee (“Meredith” in this shitty excuse of a “retelling”) was weird. Meg was materialistic and shallow. Beth has basically no personality. Amy was a spoiled brat who yelled at everyone. And Jo — my favorite, my soul-sister — was a fiery-tempered, nasty-bitch, mean girl.
NO THANK YOU.
Anna Todd ruined what could’ve been a very interesting retelling.
Also the editing was AWFUL. Here is an example of a sentence that made me want to punch the editors (or lack thereof):
“He was a stranger who most people had something bad to say about.”
Ummm... what?!
Again... NO THANK YOU. I could write — and edit other people’s writing — better than that when I was 16, thank you very much. God.
So yes:
• Plot: 0/5 stars
• Characters: 0/5 stars
• Writing: 0/5 stars
Clearly, I do not recommend this.
