The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Is anyone gonna acknowledge the racism?? Ugh. Giving one star to a book with a Pulitzer that *everyone* loved (except me, apparently).

I leave you with just this terrible passage, after the main character Theo told his (white, Russian) friend Boris he didn’t want to go eat dinner with him:

“Boris laughed, and then threw out some fake-looking gang sign. Suit yourself, yo,” he said”, in his “gangsta” voice (discernible from his regular voice only by the hand gesture and the “yo”) as he got up and roll-walked out. “—- gotz to eat.” End chapter.

If you’re a white female author who wants to make characters racist and “flawed,” do it in a different way.
